Nominated and Oscar winners at JFF

In the main program we announce Beaufort, the Israeli director Joseph Cedar's third film for which he won the Silver Bear in the Berlin International Film Festival. The film is based on a true story of the events on the Beaufort fort in the months before the Israeli pulled out of Lebanon. It was also this year's Israeli candidate for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, but the award went to Die Fälscher (The Counterfeiters) by Austrian director Stefan Ruzowitzky. So, to make sure you don't miss an Oscar winner, we are screening The Counterfeiters as well!

Warning, Counterfeiters!

This year's Academy Award winner for Best Foreign Language Film, Die Fälscher (The Counterfeiters) by director Stefan Ruzowitzky will also be screened at JFF. Based on a memoir by Adolf Burger, it is a story of a Jewish Slovak, imprisoned in 1942 for forging baptismal certificates and coerced to work on the Operation Bernhard in a concentration camp. The operation was the Nazi's plan to weaken Great Britain during the Second World War by printing false British money.
Coming to the festival are Adolf Burger himself, as well as August Diehl, at the moment one of the top German actors, playing Burger in the film.
